About Jennifer

I became a caregiver to understand Alzheimers more.. my father was diagnosed with this and was living in a facility. I decided to get my CNA and go work for them. Im very thankful for this because it brought me closer to him. The one of many things I like about being a caregiver is the challenge, can I get them to smile to day? Can I get them to the shower with out a fight? Can I get them to eat their food without telling me no or throwing it everywhere or spitting it out? Can I get them to socialize with the other residents today? there are many challenges everyday and its the fears they have whether it was something in their past or resent. I think we loose site of these because we are healthy and can do for ourselves for know.. I go to work and I say what would I want someone to do for me if I was setting there. My biggest achievement is taking a resident that everyone says good luck I cant get them to do anything today, and I get them to smile or to eat. Sometimes a personal rub on the back or a hug is all they wanted.. all my residents have the biggest smiles on their faces when I walk in.. Because I believe if you are smiling they will too.. I may not always feel like smiling but I feel like its a must when Im at work. I taught preschool before I became a CNA and I thought that was my calling in life but the strange thing about all that is that I just reversed the ages, and its really the same difference its all about caring and teaching and you get to learn something
