what makes me a great caregiver is that I listen and pay attention to my clients. I became a certified nursing assistant to work with clients and make their lives a little bit easier. I like being a caregiver because things we do for our clients that we don't think twice about makes their entire day sometimes. Their happiness and appreciation is rewarding. My proudest achievement was passing my cna test.

8 YEARS DEMENTIA EXPERIENCE L.A. NATIVE I cared for my mother Sara for the last 14 years of her life - 10 years as her live in 24/7 caregiver. Sadly she passed in her sleep on May 2018 at age 95. I saw the early stages of her memory issues & forgetfulness 10yrs prior to Dementia diagnosis - this lead to late stage Dementia with "6mos to live" within only 1 year of diagnosis. 2 years after diagnosis - after much research - I started her on 3 vitamin supplements and we all witnessed her condition slowly reverse a full 95% back to normal within 6mos prompting Drs to stop all psych meds. A real true success story. I always took mom to her doctor Appt's discussing her medical issues while working hard with medical staff to try to get best care. Mom and I did everything together - we went for walks & outings - I got her to start reading and watching TV again once dementia improved - play her favorite songs - sing to her - got her to sing along - went to movies - the malls - got her hair & nails done every 8 wks - I self learned diaper changing procedures and proper products & cleaning to avoid rashes and skin breakdown with the appropriate lotions plus meal prep, feeding and bathing - it was very important to keep my mother vibrant at all times. Her last 6yrs she used walker and walked a slow snails pace and very unstable so getting her safely in and out of a car or anything was a learning experience. She never had an injury under my care. She weighed 200lbs. I feel I provided very high personalized level of care - especially when compared to most Skilled Nursing facilities where nurse staff are overwhelmed with patients and patients receive minimal attention as I witnessed myself.
