Before I retired, my last 7 years working for Assumption Parish School Board I worked with special needs children. It was a joy to be able to teach them, train them and take care of them. The last two were Downs kids. One was an eleven year old boy and a twelve year old girl. I worked with them in fifth grade but on their level of ability. Then there was a student who I worked with for five years. She had multiple personalities. She was 10 years old when I started working with her until she was 16 and started attending the high school. It makes you feel like you have help in their lives especially now that they see you out of the school area and run up to hug and kiss you because they recognize you. I also in 2011 when my grandfather died I moved in with my grandmother who was 86 years. She is now 99 years and I am not her personal caretaker because we have someone who comes in to sit while I use to work. I am after hours, sitters time off and just granddaughter who takes care and proves the necessary daily care. She is in good health and well taken care of. She only takes a B12 shot once a month. I would like to be able to do most of the things I do for my grandmother and did for the special needs kids. I know I can make a difference for someone who needs some kind of great caring or some kind of training in other to live in these days.
