I have known since the age of 12 that I wanted to be a caregiver in some capacity. My grandparents look care of me as a child and I wanted to take care of them as they grew older and could no longer take care of themselves. As I got older, I realized that I not only wanted to take care of the elderly but the sick as well. I liked the idea of helping people feel better and doing things for them that they could not do for themselves, I found it to be rewarding and fulfilling. What I like most about being a caregiver is being apart of a team that helps people feel better and when there is no better, we make their final days as comfortable as possible. A personal achievement that I am most proud of is helping a family deal with the loss of their mother. One of the daughters cried, hugged me tightly, thanked me and then said, "You have done more for me than you will ever realize." I absolutely LOVE what I do. I have been a nursing asistant for over 18 years and I am in school to become a Registered Nurse so that I can help people in a greater capacity. Being a nursing assistant isn't just what I do, it's more than just a job. Being a nursing assistant defines who I am as a person. I am caring, nurturing, giving, and most of all compassionate.
