About Joanne

Hello! I am a current student at the University of Michigan, on the pre-med track, majoring in biocognitive neuroscience. I have done many hours of community service (200+) throughout high school and college involving taking care of seniors in senior homes (with special focus on those with neurological disorders) as well as children in a day-care type setting. Personally having a grandfather diagnosed with Alzheimers, and having looked after him for nearly every summer I can, I understand the difficulties of having someone to forget your name, or even lash out. I am very accommodating and put his needs above all else and make sure his needs are met properly, such as putting on clothes, walking to the bathroom, and eating food, as well as holding his hand to guide him out in the city. I have even volunteered abroad to provide underprivileged people with free medical service and medication. I am a very caring and considerate person, and am even selfless when it comes to taking care of someone who needs my help. I can guarantee that I am very gentle and accommodating of different types of people, and am very responsible and focused as well. Should you like to speak with me, please feel free to contact me via email at jminalee@umich.edu.

Working closely with underprivileged people to both seniors and children alike, I administered medication, took vitals, and wrote diagnostics for the patients. We provided free medical care to the public. Many were surprisingly unaware of many health precautions and we made sure to have these patients know how to properly take care of themselves.

• Using the novel 3-D model of neuronal culture, which has robust tau phosphorylation, the most optimal and accurate in vitro system to study Alzheimer’s; disease. GFP and m-Cherry were used as florescent tags to determine the extent of Alzheimers’ pathology in the neuron. • 3-D model of culture was used to determine if proximity of the normal cell and the afflicted cell would cause the transmission of Alzheimers’. If proven true, then it would indicate that Alzheimer’s’ is an external process, and if not, an internal process.

One of the reasons that makes me who I am as a caregiver is the compassion that I have in my heart for my clients and their families. I am a person of integrity, honesty, dependability and concern. It's about giving of myself to my clients and having a sense of the quality of life concerning the lifestyle they have. When I come into their presence a smile comes on their face. I will show the passion, give the encouragement, and hope they will have the confidence that I will know exactly what to do concerning their plan of care. I became a caregiver because of my mother's influence. Listening to her talk about her clients was interesting and heart warming and sometimes I felt sad and wanted to help, so I did! The rewards of being a caregiver is caring for those who cannot care for themselves or just needing a little help. Always understanding what care consists of at all times regardless of the situations and circumstances whether it's to assist or just HELP. I love what I do as a caregiver because I have a compassionate heart.
