I have been in all aspects of health care for 20 years. When I was 15 years old my father was hit in a head on collision, which left him to be a quadriplegic. My mother and sister and I, was taught by the best R.N's, O.T. and P.T. aswell as home care givers. Never did I think I would become intrested in the feild, but I did, and loved it. I became a STNA in 2000. I've worked with, adult/child MRDD w/ seizures. Also elderly along with Alz/dementia. I currently work in a Ltach hospital. I care for the very ill patients, some are on vents and have trachs. I've been there for 4 years. I am very committed to my patients and caring to them in their time if need. I love what I do and acknowledge that everyday I come in to work and see the appreciation on my patients faces. I had a young woman that was in a bad car accident, that was on a vent for a long time that I worked with, and everyday I spoke to her and explained who I was and what I was doing with her. After awhile , she was taken off the vent and could speak, aswell was awake. When I came into her room she seen me and said "Thank you Christina for everything" ! I was shocked she even remembered me or my name for that matter, needless to say I was in tears... because I mattered. And of course for her recovery. This just proved so much to me that day. A person may forget what you say, but at the end of the day, it's how you made them feel, is what they'll always remember.
