I became a caregiver after my children were all in school. when i was young, i used to help my grandmother take care of her mother. since then, i have always assisted people without even realizing i was helping. i became a cna 8 years ago and worked on the cardio vascular surgical unit for a couple years and then the neuro science floor for a year. i floated on some days to different units in the hosp. i moved to johnson city 4 years ago to take care of my grandmother. she had developed dementia. i worked at a local nursing home during the day and would go to grandmas house after work to bathe, and help her feel comfortable for bed. after she passed away, i took on working as a private in home caregiver. i do not have an up to date cna certificate because i chose to do in home private care and not work through a facility. i have plenty experience with the elderly, and they are who i choose to work with. they are why we are here, and i really enjoy showing them appreciation for all their hard work in life.
