My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and lived for ten years after that, requiring assistance with everything from managing his finances to bathing and dressing. There is nothing like hands on experience to make you realize the need and opportunity to assist in this field. Since I am not a licensed CNA, I cannot administer medications, but I can observe someone taking them.

Holiday Retirement
Make the residents happy. Simple phrase but challenging as well. Many of our residents have low vision, hearing impairments, mobility challenges and advanced age. The median age of residents is 85, making all activities a real challenge to plan and execute, but I have managed to do just that. Not only have I increased participation in familiar activities, I have introduced and implemented new activities to challenge, inspire and provide a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in our residents. They like and respect me for that, and that in itself is a tremendous reward!
