I have been a caregiver since I was in my youth by taking care of my paternal grandmother and all her needs. Then I took care of my maternal grandmother on and off for about 25 yrs. I took care of my late husband who had cancer for 7 yrs and then my father who had dementia after a stroke for about 7 yrs between my sister and I. This was not a fulltime 24/7 situation but took up a lot of time out of my day. Then I took care of my newborn grandson for 2 years as my daughter was not well. After that my mom had several surgerys and had radiation. I have been staying with a 90 yr old woman who is an old friend here in Forest City but she has new help now. I guess it is in my genes to do this. I gives me satisfaction to know that I have helped someone to stay as independent as possible while helping them through their day. I want to get my CNA license so I can stay in this career. As for a personal achievement I am proud of is that I worked for a motivational speaker who spoke about positive thinking and follow your dreams and he taught me a lot about life and how to enjoy every moment. I look forward to each caregiving position that comes my way and doing my best to make a difference in that persons life. I am able to travel up to an hour one way for any position as that is the time I listen to music and tapes in my car.
