I began working as a caregiver st the age of 17. Actually much younger as I often would take care of my mom as she was bipolar and needed a lot of assistance. Caregiving and helping people as always come very natural to me and provides me with a lot of joy. Being able to help with people is always been a priority to me. My whole life I have always cared for some one. My first real caregiving job was at 16 and I loved it. It is a true blessing to help those that need a little extra care in life due to a illness, accident, or just the aging process. I enjoy cooking, art, gardening, and reading when I have time. I'm from Oahu and moved to Maui 1990. Then got some mainland experience before coming back home to Maui.

Aloha my name is Jacquelyn I've been caregiving most all my life. I became a caregiver because I have a passion to help those who need help. I grew up with a disabled mother most my life, she was such a beautiful person and always wasn't treated so by a judgemental uncaring world at times. I seen the struggles she had to endure life can be fast paced and unjust, Seeing that I started to do my part at a early age. Helping my mother feel loved and cared for you see it starts with the feeling first then action, i showered her cleaned for my mother I helped her eat healthier since she was a diabetic, I helped her in and out of bed as she became immobile. I showered her with love I understand there is a overwhelming need for compassionate caregiving. At that realization I made my mind up I'd help as many as I could in my lifetime by being a caregiver id treat people/clients with dignity and respect no matter what their circumstances were and that was going to be through what I could give caregiving for others. They deserve to have great safe care at the least, I try to bring happy to the sad, comfort to the pain, and a friend to the person. I am a nursing student who has a strong passion for helping and caring for people. I enjoy making people smile and laugh and making an impact on their life. During my experience as a caregiver, I have impacted the lives of the clients I have worked with and have also impacted the lives of their families by providing them the comfort to care for their loved ones. I have played a role in their lives by building trust and a strong bond with the families, trusting me to care for their loved ones. I am a compassionate caregiver as I have witnessed firsthand the battles that the clients I have with go through whether it is the disease or illness they are fighting or suffering from or even just the effects of aging. I have also volunteered at Hale Makua Health Services (nursing home) during my high school years. This volunteer experience ignited my passion for nursing through watching the nurses work with the residents there. This is where I also did my clinical for my nurse aide program and that exposure has helped me hone the necessary skills and knowledge to become a competent and compassionate caregiver. The feedback I receive from clients and their families is what motivates me to do better at my job and makes my job fulfilling.

I am a friendly, energetic, person that loves working with people especially in the medical/caregiving field. I am very empathetic, and have a huge amount of patience, which I think are so key in dealing with the sick, the elderly and the young. I have been interested and involved in the medical/caregiver field all my life even taking care of my Alzheimer grandfather when I was just 10. ( I was the only one in the family with the patience and aptitude!) I think this is ultimately what drew me to the field is my love and compassion for the hurt, the young, and the elderly. I truly love being a caregiver, medical personnel and it shows in the care I give my patients. I have taken care of some very extreme patients ie; quads in wheelchairs and on ventilators, I am comfortable with all levels of care for my patients from the low level needs, to high intensive needs and have a vast knowledge to work with all of these types of patients.
