I became a caregiver because I did not want to work in main stream Healthcare anymore. My passion is helping seniors the way they and their family's want to be cared for without Healthcare systems making the choices for their care. I worked as a physical therapy assistant for 27 years. The last 8 were in a rehabilitation department at a skilled nursing facility. I have enjoyed the last 9 years doing private home care as a caregiver. Helping individuals live their lives with dignity, safety and loving care.
Skills & Certifications: Vision and Eye Disorders, Urgent & Emergency Medical Care, Home Health Aide (HHA), Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), Laboratory/ Diagnostic Tests Checking, Medication Management, Patient Assessment & Reporting, Wound Care, Ward/Unit Management, Isolation Care, Treatment Administration & Management, Admission/Discharge Procedure, Digital & Manual Charting, Activities of Daily Living, Vital Signs, Diabetes, Neurological Disorders, Stroke, Home Health Care, Skin Disorders, Respiratory Disorders, Post Surgery Recovery, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, Orthopedic Care, Palliative Care, Cancer Recovery, Dementia, Cardiovascular Disorders, Alzheimer's Disease, Hearing Disorders, Depression, Arthritis, COPD

My name is Connie and my mother's name was Carol. I took care of her until her early death at 53 for 10 years. She had MS. After being in the veterinary field for 20 years, I've gained a level of comfortability with all things clinical and medical. I adore the elderly and have experience with Alzheimer patients and those with dementia. I think I would make a great addition to your family's health care plan and can really make a difference in your loved ones daily life. I'm a happy person and try to bring that to my clients everyday.

I've been a Certified Life & Wellness coach since 1996. After moving to Maine, I opened my private practice in Yarmouth. And started volunteering at ME Handicapped Skiing (now ME Adaptive Sports & Recreation), & with disabled veterans. For reasons beyond my personal control, I had to close my private practice. So I decided to use my skills serving others in a different capacity, this time focusing on the elderly population in Maine as well as Hospice service. I started as a caregiver with 3 different agencies in the Portland area. After 2 yrs, I 'down-sized' to two agencies in order to get certified as a CRMA. Quite often I am asked to start the service with a new client. Several times family members of a 24X7 client requested for me to be the primary caregiver and to coordinate the day to day client needs. In fact, it was commented that "when Maria is out, things really don't go well. As soon as she's back, everything flows so smoothly." My biggest personal achievement was to be selected "VNA's caregiver of the Year 2016". Ive becobecextended famiky to my elderly clients and hospice patients, as they have become to me. I'm honored & feel priviledged to serve my clients/patients at end of life as well as providing respite for family members and guiding them throughout the weeks/days before & after losing a loved one. My life's journey has taken me all over the world. I speak numerous languages, have lived on several continents, learned skiing at 47, ballroom dance competitor at 49, certified diver at 52., and now plan to get my private pilot's license by my 70th Birthday. Having supported my husband and only son during their cancer journeys, I learned that we cannot take anything for granted in life. We must find our own way of living life to the fullest each and every moment. I'm grateful for all the people who have touched my life. Each and every one has been a gift to me as I have been a gift to them. I hope to touch many more lives.

Life it's to short and we need to make sure to be there when other needs us. l like making someone smile and doing little things to make a person's day better. You take pride in your attention to detail. You don't want a desk job; you like being physical in your job and using your body as well as your brain. There is many achievement in my life but the best one i believe it's putting a smile in my client face.

I am a very compassionate person with a drive to make everyone smile and feel cared for! I first started as a caregiver back in 2009 and fell in love with being able to help people. I then developed my career into working with adults and children with developmental disabilities and behavioral disorders. I am certified as both a DSP and BHP. I have gotten my certifications in CPR/First Aid and also am certified as a CRMA. I constantly am wanting to learn more and better myself to help others. Some traits I feel make me a great caregiver are that I'm kind, trustworthy, reliable, patient, caring, and pretty positive! I like to see the best in any situation and learn from troubled ones.

It is in my DNA to help. It is what I do best & where I am most content. It is my joy to give others joy in what ever way that is for the individual. I find it a challenge & a blessing to work with a person who may be considered a challenge to work with, & with some good listening skills & some T.L.C. get that person to relax & not be so demanding. A little about me. I have two hobbies that keep me grounded & contribute to my personal & professional life. One is photography, I do mostly nature & wild life, which teaches me patience & being still to listen. Second, refinishing/painting furniture. This allows my creative nature to open & flow, think out side the box. Take something old, dull, maybe not so interesting & bring it back to life , new , bright & fresh. My friends & family call me a very positive, encouraging person. I find the good in most all situations & people. I have joy in my heart & I love to share the love & joy with those around me. I like living.

I am an extremely patient, and caring individual. I have always wanted to work in the health care field since I was a kid. I truly enjoy helping other people, and being able to make a difference in their lives. I always put myself in their shoes, so I can try to see how they feel in certain situations. I take care of my clients the way I would want someone else to take care of my family members. I love being able to take clients out of the house, even if it's just for a short walk or drive around town. I feel it's important for them to keep their independence for as long as they can. I can't imagine doing anything else for a career. I take my job seriously, but have a fun, bubbly, outgoing personality.

I first started caregiving when I was 17. My first job was for glorias helping hands. At first i wasnt sure about how i felt about the type of work. I didnt have much experience as to what i was doing. I took some classes and got my rcs1 and crma first. Rcs1 is a residential care specialist and a CRMA is a certified residential medical assistant. As i learned more and worked more I realized that is was my passion to help others who may need some assistance in things they can no longer do. Honestly u really do have to have a passion for this type of work because u never know what could happen or what situation u may end up in. And some of the disabilities, and some health issues can be challenging. Ive been very lucky to continue and have worked and learned various disabilities, as well as illnesses. Today i have my rcs1, pss, cna, and also insulin certified, cpr certified, and first aid certified. I love knowing that I'm making a difference and im helping and am there for someone who needs some support and help in their life.
