I became a caregiver because I did not want to work in main stream Healthcare anymore. My passion is helping seniors the way they and their family's want to be cared for without Healthcare systems making the choices for their care. I worked as a physical therapy assistant for 27 years. The last 8 were in a rehabilitation department at a skilled nursing facility. I have enjoyed the last 9 years doing private home care as a caregiver. Helping individuals live their lives with dignity, safety and loving care.

People often describe me as one of the kindest people they know. I believe I was put on this earth to help people, and caring for others is the way I choose to satisfy this calling. I was raised in a family that always went above and beyond for other people. As a child we often had someone staying in our guest room to help them through hard times and getting back on their feet. My mother is a pharmacist who owns our family business with my father. Working in and around the pharmacy has exposed me to people from all walks of life, and gave me the desire to work more hands on with patients. I have spent most of my life helping to care for my younger sibling with severe physical disabilities. In 2020 I began my first job as a PSS. I took care of one client full time, she had Lewy Body Dementia and was hospice. Here is where I found my love for memory care and end of life care. It isn't an easy job, and many people can't do it. But I love that I am able to give the gift of support and caregiving to my clients and families during these trying times. As I am also a licensed cosmetologist I also am happy to provide my clients hair with services, nail care, and skin care. With the risk of COVID-19 still widespread this is a perk many clients love as they don't have to leave home and expose themselves to receive these services. I am timely, reliable, and will go above and beyond to provide the best quality of care possible. I look at my job like this: If this was my parent, how would I want them taken care of? And that is the standard I hold myself to.

I'm an extremely empathetic, caring and compassionate person. I am a caretaker by nature and have always felt that doing such work I was born to do. I grew up taking close care of family members and got great joy from doing so. I feel caretaking gives me incredible purpose and can't imagine doing anything else.

I've been a Certified Life & Wellness coach since 1996. After moving to Maine, I opened my private practice in Yarmouth. And started volunteering at ME Handicapped Skiing (now ME Adaptive Sports & Recreation), & with disabled veterans. For reasons beyond my personal control, I had to close my private practice. So I decided to use my skills serving others in a different capacity, this time focusing on the elderly population in Maine as well as Hospice service. I started as a caregiver with 3 different agencies in the Portland area. After 2 yrs, I 'down-sized' to two agencies in order to get certified as a CRMA. Quite often I am asked to start the service with a new client. Several times family members of a 24X7 client requested for me to be the primary caregiver and to coordinate the day to day client needs. In fact, it was commented that "when Maria is out, things really don't go well. As soon as she's back, everything flows so smoothly." My biggest personal achievement was to be selected "VNA's caregiver of the Year 2016". Ive becobecextended famiky to my elderly clients and hospice patients, as they have become to me. I'm honored & feel priviledged to serve my clients/patients at end of life as well as providing respite for family members and guiding them throughout the weeks/days before & after losing a loved one. My life's journey has taken me all over the world. I speak numerous languages, have lived on several continents, learned skiing at 47, ballroom dance competitor at 49, certified diver at 52., and now plan to get my private pilot's license by my 70th Birthday. Having supported my husband and only son during their cancer journeys, I learned that we cannot take anything for granted in life. We must find our own way of living life to the fullest each and every moment. I'm grateful for all the people who have touched my life. Each and every one has been a gift to me as I have been a gift to them. I hope to touch many more lives.

I am an 38 years old black African who's very dedicated, patient, compassionate, attentive, trustworthy person. I had many people in my own family who needed help and assistance. I grew up in an environment that make me to understand what they've been going through and he creates in me the passion and love to aid. Life it's to short and we need to make sure to be there when other needs us. l like making someone smile and doing little things to make a person's day better. You take pride in your attention to detail. You don't want a desk job; you like being physical in your job and using your body as well as your brain. There is many achievement in my life but the best one i believe it's putting a smile in my client face.

I have been in elderly care for 18yrs. From facilities to home care to private care. I am also a hospice trained. I love getting to know my consumers and who they were and are now.

It is in my DNA to help. It is what I do best & where I am most content. It is my joy to give others joy in what ever way that is for the individual. I find it a challenge & a blessing to work with a person who may be considered a challenge to work with, & with some good listening skills & some T.L.C. get that person to relax & not be so demanding. A little about me. I have two hobbies that keep me grounded & contribute to my personal & professional life. One is photography, I do mostly nature & wild life, which teaches me patience & being still to listen. Second, refinishing/painting furniture. I currently have 7 years experience in healthcare, graduated with A. A. S. in para-medicine and currently possess a State of Maine paramedic license. I have experience working in hospital ED's, transport services and in emergency services. I am currently pursuing a nursing degree and I am looking for PT work in home care. I have many years of experience working with different age groups both in and outside of healthcare and I have really enjoyed it! I also have the necessary skills that are needed to care for a person with healthcare issues such as medical monitoring, medication administration, nutrition, etc. I also have a solid understanding of the pathology of many different diseases and illness such as diabetes, dementia, heart disease and the like. Most importantly I possess critical thinking skills needed to identify an emergency or changes that may lead to the need for further care. I possess a high degree of both professionalism and empathy. I have a great sense of humor and a ton of life experience. I treat my patients just as I would my own family and friends.
