When I was 19, my mom encouraged me to take the nursing assistant course. I did, and since then I have had 3 years of experience in caregiving for the elderly, the sick, and the handicapped. I worked in a nursing home for a year caring for those with dementia and Alzheimers, those recovering from surgery, those on hospice care, and those simply in long term care. I also have a year of experience working for a single client with MS in her home. She is completely paralyzed so I worked hard to make her quality of life as high as I possibly could. I made sure she knew she could rely on and trust me, thereby giving her some control back in her life. I've also worked in a long term acute care facility for almost half a year. There I gained experience with patients on ventilators, patients unable to communicate or move, and those with infected wounds, among many other conditions. I am a licensed CNA and have BLS/CPR training (certified). I enjoy the challenge of meeting needs wherever they come up. I believe creativity is a must when giving the best care you can. I enjoy the process of discovering the best ways to respond to needs as they arise. I am proud of the work I do and am very confident that I do it well. It gives me joy to help people in daily tasks and provide emotional support or a listening ear. I am a very empathetic person and so I learn very fast how to predict the needs of individual clients. I also understand well the dynamic between the caregiver and the client and I am capable of maintaining the professional aspect, while still meeting them on a personal level.
