About Shawanda

I am a full time student studying to become a Occupational Therapist. I currently work part time as a Patient Care Technician in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Brooklyn, where I have been employed since February 2008. Prior to that I worked as a Senior Aide at The United Cerebral Palsy association and as a Teachers Assistant at private owned daycare. I also am a devoted mother and wife. Family, unity, and helping one another means everything to me. I tragically lost my mother at a very young age and thanks to family, friends, and people in my community, being there for us, we were able to pick up the pieces, although we were 1 piece short, and put our lives back together. The impact that they had on my life was powerful and made me realize that helping other whether it's a little or a lot can go a long way. Some of my favorite pastimes are cooking, cleaning, reading, taking walks, playing card games, and sewing. I have experience providing activities of daily living, transfers (stand pivot & Hoyer lift), toileting, grooming/hygiene, medication support, turning and positioning (for those who may be bedridden), and blood glucose monitoring and testing. I provide care for individuals of all ages. I care for my clients as if they are my own family. I love what I do, and the most rewarding part is providing unconditional love and care.
