My passion for geriatrics started a couple of years ago; I come from France where I worked as an occupational therapist (I'm not licensed to work as an OT in the US). There I had my first experience with seniors with dementia, and I really want to continue in that direction. As an occupational therapist, I discovered all the modifications to the environment that can be done to help a person with dementia feel better at home. I learned about the physical movements that can help a person stay active. I researched numerous activities that can be used to maintain the cognitive skills. I had the occasion to try various solutions to sustain the sensitive skills and help the autonomy. I also completed a CNA Training in Maryland (license not transfered to NY yet) in order to learn how to help with bathing, grooming, etc. In my non-professional life, I also like to cook, and I keep my home neat and clean, qualities that I'm sure are appreciated in home care. I am passionate about caring for seniors because I feel that, after a full life, they have so much to teach me. I love talking about the past and hearing how things used to be. I am passionate about dementia because of the complexity of the disease, and also because it requires so much emotional intelligence from the care giver. I am very motivated to keep learning more and provide a better care, day after day.
