Responsibilities Taking Vitals signs Taking fluid samples or other specimens for testing Assisting patients with ADL's. Inspect and clean work area Transfer, ambulate, and lift patients. Skills Used Performs personal care for the comfort and well being of the patient, such as bed bath, tub bath, sits bath, mouth care, skin care, and hair care. * Serves and collects food trays. Feeds patients and records dietary intake. Distributes water and other nourishments. * Measures and records intake and output. * Assists the patient with bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, bowel and bladder retraining. Records daily bowel function. Applies condom catheters. * Administers cleansing, fleet, and/or retention enema. * Provides perennial and catheter care. * Empties drainage device from body cavities and wounds. Maintains gastric suction. * Assists with simple non-sterile dressing changes, application and removal of ace bandages, TED hose, heat lamps, pelvic and cervical traction. * Makes beds and changes linen. * Performs PM care to include: back rubs, straightening linens, and assisting patients with elimination at bedtime. * Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure. Obtains and records patient weight and height. * Turns and positions patients. Assists patients with transfers to bed, wheelchair, and stretcher. * Assists with range of motion exercises. * Provides instructions to patients and family members according to approved protocols and/or the plan of care
