I am currently a senior at the NYU College of Nursing program, however I'm taking some time off this semester in part to dedicate myself to a humanitarian organization that I am building in Nepal. During this time off, I'll be based in D.C. from mid-October to Mid-November, and am hoping to work for some of this time as a caregiver, so as to do meaningful work and support my project. In addition to the clinical nursing skills that I have been learning at school and in the hospital, my caregiving credentials include a home care aide certification from Washington. I have felt truly privileged to have served the clients I have had so far. My intent as a caregiver is to keep my clients feeling as engaged, safe independent and content in their lives as much as possible. I have experience with dementia patients as well as people with mobility problems (this includes Alzheimer's and Parkinson's patients). I can provide a range of ADL and other care services including but not limited to bathing, toilet and dressing assistance, grocery shopping, meal preparation, light housekeeping, event planning and basic clerical work. And while I am not able to perform any clinical procedures on my clients until I am a register nurse, my education has helped me to cultivate stronger diagnostic skills, and greater awareness of how to respond to various kinds of health issues. And whether any or all of these services are requested, I will always try to be a positive and attentive companion. Background: Although my parents are both American, their international public health work kept us moving around the world while growing up. I was born in Thailand, lived in Nepal, Haiti and Vietnam before moving to Seattle for the end of High School in 2009. I then continued to travel the world until I decided to start nursing school at NYU in 2014.
Caregivers that work non-full-time jobs or irregular shifts can negotiate extra compensation in addition to their standard hourly wage.
