About Jeremy

I am currently a senior at the NYU College of Nursing program, however I'm taking some time off this semester in part to dedicate myself to a humanitarian organization that I am building in Nepal. During this time off, I'll be based in D.C. from mid-October to Mid-November, and am hoping to work for some of this time as a caregiver, so as to do meaningful work and support my project. In addition to the clinical nursing skills that I have been learning at school and in the hospital, my caregiving credentials include a home care aide certification from Washington. I have felt truly privileged to have served the clients I have had so far. My intent as a caregiver is to keep my clients feeling as engaged, safe independent and content in their lives as much as possible. I have experience with dementia patients as well as people with mobility problems (this includes Alzheimer's and Parkinson's patients). I can provide a range of ADL and other care services including but not limited to bathing, toilet and dressing assistance, grocery shopping, meal preparation, light housekeeping, event planning and basic clerical work. And while I am not able to perform any clinical procedures on my clients until I am a register nurse, my education has helped me to cultivate stronger diagnostic skills, and greater awareness of how to respond to various kinds of health issues. And whether any or all of these services are requested, I will always try to be a positive and attentive companion. Background: Although my parents are both American, their international public health work kept us moving around the world while growing up. I was born in Thailand, lived in Nepal, Haiti and Vietnam before moving to Seattle for the end of High School in 2009. I then continued to travel the world until I decided to start nursing school at NYU in 2014.

I haven't yet started working for them as I was away for around 5 months during the summer, but they seem a great institution that provides individualized care for the clients, and are dedicated to highly ethical business practices.

Private Caregiver

Feb 2016 - May 2016
Private Family
Robert and his wife were visiting New York for three months that spring and asked me to provide companion care for Robert a few times a week so that his wife could enjoy some time alone. We had a great time, spending many hours burrowing deep into our respective lives, discussing current events and abstract ideas. Robert was growing physically weaker so I provided a lot of ambulation support on our regular walks to the park/restaurants. He was also in the early stages of dementia and I had to help him adjust to his new reality.

Companion Caregiver

Mar 2014 - Jun 2014
Private Family
I spent three months with Albert providing companionship for him a few times a week. My main goal was to get Albert engaged with his favorite hobbies as well as assist him with his physiotherapy exercises. I stopped working for him when I moved to NY to start college.

Home Care Aide

Mar 2014 - Jun 2014
Right At Home
This is where my caregiving career began. Right at Home has its own training academy and I received my Washington State Home Care Aide license there. Once I passed their training, I was assigned to provide care for a patient with advanced dementia at a nursing home near Seattle. Responsibilities included, bathing, toilet assistance, ambulating, companionship and cleaning. I began college at NYU that summer which is why I stopped working for Right At Home.
