One of my greatest qualities of becoming a caregiver was to care as if it was one of your family members and having that connection one on one in creating a bond and Trust and just making the other person feel safe and bring good energy and being positive everyday. Just learning about the person I'm caring for knowing them on another level of trust and being a friend and compassionate person that is going to help them willingly and how you could just turn your day around and making them feel good and better and for yourself as well. I did that for five years and then started working with the developmentally disabled in semi-independent living situations as well as AHF's. After that, I became an activities assistant, in a skilled facility. That was one of the most amazing jobs ever. I got to create programs at night for residents with sundowners as well as the ones who were bored. Since then, I have done home care as well as working in facilities. I was born to take care of people and that is that. I've done home care from total quadriplegic care, down to basic companionship and housekeeping.
