Hi, My name is Cheryl Gyllenband, and I've been a private and professional caregiver for approximately 14 yrs. I am fascinated by our geriatric community and it is with joy and honor, I serve each of my clients. I take my position very seriously, as there are situations where I am their only contact for extended periods. Each person is treated with dignity, and respect they all deserve and the compassion / understanding they all need. Aging is hard and giving up control of our lives is harder. Each client is unique, none fitting into a prestructured plan. I fully realize this and find it important to develop a relationship with those I care for so, together, we can develop a routine based on their abilities and where they need assistance. My first role as a caregiver was my father in law. He was an independent, intelligent educator...and resisted my care until we came to a mutual understanding to trust and respect one another and all I did was in his best interest. I cared for him 24/7 almost 2 yrs. It was exhausting, yet the most rewarding thing I'd ever accomplished. He shared his life and experiences, heartbreaks and happiness with me. He was pleased I wanted to listen to his stories... ..that what he'd done in life mattered. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him with love and appreciation as he made me into the compassionate caregiver I am now. Since then, I've had many clients over the past 12 yrs and have been blessed to be a part of each of their lives and included in their stories and I have been honored to be by their sides til their journey was over. At some point, caregiving stops being a job...we become family. My greatest strength and attributes are that I care with empathy and heart...and the golden rule, "Do unto others..."

I'm a very caring and compassion person especially when it comes to elderly people. I recently lost my mother ,she was 91 years old. I had a lot to do with taking care of her as she lived alone and I understand how much attention the elderly people need in their everyday life from housekeeping to their personal needs especially just having someone there to keep them company.

I'm kind, compassionate and caring. My grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's while I was in high school and I have a nephew on the Autism spectrum. I already had the personality that suits being a caretaker and as I experienced life with my grandmother and nephew my interest in helping others who are struggling in similar ways, heightened. I went to college for nursing and worked in a nursing home as a Nurses Aid for a semester.I did not complete college as My life took a different path. I met my husband who was raising his four children and along with my three became a quick family of seven young children. Raising seven children definitely helped prepare me further for this path. While Raising our children I often cared for other children in our home. Caretaking with the elderly & special needs fell into my lap. I was cleaning homes and started taking care of an elderly couple, who's home I was cleaning, The couples children asked me if I would start staying with them- I did and I found it rewarding. Most of the work I've done in this field, since then, has been by word of mouth. Though, I've been hired through CareLinx several times and worked with a home health company for two years. I enjoy the work & believe it's a life calling.
