I was too young to remember the story but my aunt says when I was 4 years old, that I comforted and reassured her when she was crying over a breakup with her boyfriend. I believe this was the beginning of my journey to care for others. I majored in Social Work and have had a wonderful 27 year career of working with children, adolescents and the aging. I have worked at UVA hospital where I gained insight into the importance of maintaining good health and how devastating a disease or accident is on one's health and life. I have worked for department of social services and assisted the aging with receiving the services needed to remain in their home or to move into a facility. At this time, I am doing "hands on" care in people's home to assist them with various activities of daily living. My mother was bedridden for many years and I was one of her primary caregivers. I know the burden on family when caring for a loved one and the importance of support. My grandfather lived to be 96 and I was there for him to assist with shopping, meal prep, housekeeping, medication reminders and transportation. I cherish the times that I spent with my mother and grandfather caring for them. I also cherish the support I received from others.

Expert caregiver with over 10 years experience providing caring supervision and assistance with ADLS/IADLS to clients/residents of varying ages in facilities and within the home. While I enjoyed my time in the facilities and became very close to some of my residents, I prefer the home setting where my clients have been most comfortable because they were in familiar surroundings. I became interested in being a caregiver while helping out my stepdad's mom and then later helping my mom who was a RN at the time take care of my stepdad before he passed. Later I moved and needed a job but didn't have the time to invest in a long term class so decided to go with the quickest thing at the time and became a CNA. That was 14 years ago and I've been doing it every since. Throughout these years I've met and worked with a lot of interesting people, most who have since passed, but I remained with until the families decided they no longer wanted to keep them in the home for one reason or another and then I was on to my next one never forgetting the one that came before them. I enjoy my job because of the people that I have been lucky enough to come in contact with. I hear stories from other people about their clients and I say to myself, I haven't had those issues. I have never had a client that I did not get along with or just could not tolerate. My clients made it easy to enjoy going to work everyday and not look at it as just a job because I never made them feel like they didn't have a choice or a say in what was going on. I always made sure they knew they still had options everyday.

Hello my name is Pam and I have been a caregiver for 13 years I also am licensed in the state of Virginia. I have been doing Home health and Hospice care for 8. I went in to caregiving after I had worked for the federal service for 28 years. I always knew my calling was to be in this field but I became a mother young and then a single mother and did not go to school until my children were much older. I love being a caregiver to the elderly because I know that they receive the best care and respect and their dignity is kept until my services are no longer needed. It is such a joy to me to see the elderly that I take care of smile everyday and laugh and enjoy life.
