Hello, my name is Kimberly Aristy. I am a caregiver at Country Meadows Retirement Home. I started out in dining and moved my way over to personal care. It was one of the best decisions in my life because I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I am currently in school for nursing at HACC. I would like to provide all my care, love, experience, and knowledge into helping elders for as long as possible. Each person comes with their own stories of how they grew up in times much more different than the current millennium. Being able to help someone who treats you like family is a beautiful blessing. I have been a caregiver for almost a year and I have learned a lot from the residents. Being able to care for at least 50 or more residents with each of them being unique and wanting different forms of help and attention definitely helps me take care of other people or elders within the same manner.

As a personal care associate to residents with dementia, parkinson’s disease, and alzheimer’s, I have a huge role in their lives to keep them feeling and looking as happy as ever. With most of my experience being a night time care giver I make sure to provide dinner for each of my residents, regardless if they do not want it at a specific time, as long as they have some nutrients in their system. After dinner we enjoy a nice & lesuirly activity. It can be a light game, puzzles, or even a movie of any genre. If the resident is ready for bed I continue to help them by getting them ready. Making sure to use the restroom before anything gets done I ask them for a shower if it is their night to do so. Sometimes one refuses, but I try until I know the limitations. If not we will do so in the morning. Regardless of their choice I do wash them down with soap and water at the temperature of their liking. I change them into their night attire and place them in bed at the time they feel is fit. Not only do I provide them with care but also help with their laundry, taking out their trash, helping with groceries when needed, and cleaning their rooms.
