About Tia

Hello, my name is Tia Nelson and I am looking for a rewarding carrier in a field that gives back to others. My background in Biomedical Sciences and Forensic Biology at The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine has prepared me to enter into the workforce and I am seeking full time career. I am certain that my academic experience, team leadership aptitude, and ability to learn quickly and apply complex concepts would be of value. As a medical mission volunteer, I have adapted to new situations while working with diverse populations towards a common goal. I have also volunteered my time at a nursing home called Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I worked in the Alzheimer’s unit with patients that need special attention. There I was able to provide a sense of companionship to the patients by offering quality care and specialized services to those with unique needs. I also helped by assisting in specialized activities for the elderly. Giving back through community service is something I value whole-heartedly. I am a member of Big Brother Big Sisters organization of Southeastern PA. Working with my 14 year old little has given me the ability to develop a tight-knit mentor/mentee relationship. I have been a member of the Student National Medical Association since undergrad. SNMA gives me the opportunity to provide community service to under-served areas by focusing on educating and empowering local communities with healthy lifestyle choices.
