I want to help people, I have spent my life observing, helping, volunteering, and working within several aspects of healthcare. My mother was an occupational therapist and so I was able to see from an early age how she helped provide a better quality of life to children with physical, mental, or developmental delays. She instilled in me a strong sense of empathy, which I still draw on today when I am able to help patients and residents. I graduated Gordon College with a Bachelor's in Kinesiology or movement science. When providing care to a patient, I use knowledge I've gained from my years in school to provide the best patient care strategies possible. I find great joy in showing my clients that I care about them as individuals and that their well-being and health are my main concern. Another reason for my deep sense of empathy comes from personal experience. I was in a life-threatening car accident that left me in a 2-week medically induced coma, after which I required extensive treatment. Many of the services and care that seniors require I have actually experienced on the patient side. Being able to recall the sense of vulnerability, embarrassment, and frustration as nurses helped me to toilet, dress, and bathe, is a constant reminder while I am providing patient care. I am proud to have made a full recovery and hope to use my life to give back to others through my skills as a healthcare provider.
