I became a caregiver because I love to help people who can't either help themselves or needs assistance. Also because at the age of 14 I became my mother's caregiver along with my sister and grandmother until I was old enough to take care of my mother on my own for 9 years. What I like about being a caregiver is I know at the end of the day when I go home I have done my job and have made my resident and family happy. I started my career as a caregiver at the age of 16, my first job was at a nursing home, this was before having to be certified. All trainig was on the job. In 1980 I recieved my first certification as a Geriactic aide. In 1990 I recieved my certification as Certified Nursing Certificate. I had a child with special needs in 1985, I started working with people with disabilities, I worked with ARC for 26 years. I view caregiving as not only a job, but also as a gift from God. love helping people. I am a Christian, I teach Sunday school . I recieved a certificate in alchohol and drug addiction in 2017. My desire is to start a support group at my church.

I am very energetic, well-organized, I love to get things done, positive and I love everything to be CLEAN and in its place. I started my caregiver experience by looking after an older lady when I was in college. After that my mother had dementia and I was her caregiver for ten years. For 3 months I took care of my husband aunt who had stage 4th cancer. I continued to care for other adults. I enjoy being a companion -- helping people feel valued and need it is very important to me.
