I started out at 15 years of age. Needed a good job. I soon knew that this was something special. Not just a job but that these were people who had families of their own. Who have worked so hard all their lives to take care of others and have been through so much more then my generation. If not for what they lived through, we would not have what we have or be where we are today. I'm very proud to say that when I lay down at night that I have given back and am helping people who really need it. I have learned that we are all the same and families need help with the ones they love and have taken take of them. I am 46 years of age and have 3 children, all grown. I have been married for 26 years to a wonderful man.

As a staff nurse, I cared for mostly senior clients at a VA Medical Center for two years in Acute Care, Geriatric Rehabilitation, Nursing Home, and Palliative Care settings. I also have experience in long-term Acute Care and Hospice Care. I recently completed a two-year nursing and care-giving assignment for an elderly gentleman who had chronic and progressive neurological disease, diabetes, renal failure, cardiac issues, hemodialysis, and home peritoneal dialysis. I was with him nights, Monday through Friday, from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. My care-giving responsibilities included personal care, toileting, bathing, dressing, transfers, assisting with ambulation, driving to medical appointments and social activities, medication management and administration, meal preparation, eating and drinking assistance. I worked with a team of female caregivers in the household, providing comprehensive and personalized 24-hour care. The other caregivers are also currently available for work as a team providing superior care around the clock, or as otherwise needed.
