I grew up going to work with my mother as she was a caregiver for the angel network. I learned the importance of patience, empathy and integrity. Caregiving is not always easy, if your caregiver doesn't appreciate this field; in my opinion your senior will not be properly Cared for. I enjoy finding a way to help my senior accomplish a task without making them feel like less of a person or embarrassed. Your loved one should always feel respected, heard, and safe. My approach to aggression, sadness, confusion, etc. is meeting your loved ones emotions and needs on their level. I quickly assess the problem and get back to a trusting common ground. Sometimes all they want Is their feelings acknowledged. This ensures they feel equal and helps keep their sense of dignity. A caretakers most important quality should be compassion and focus. When I walk through your door my phone is off and I'm ready for the day. I will treat your loved one as if she/he were my own family. I have been doing this for several years now and I've witnessed many different styles of care. Positive attitude is key. Keeping my calm helps your loved one to trust me. It's important to me they feel I am happy to be with them. Nobody wants to feel babysat. I pride myself on being able to care without the patient feeling embarrassed or overwhelmed. I try my best to help you feel safe leaving your loved one in my care. Open communication helps your family feel you've made the correct choice and helps me feel comfortable doing my job. I chose caregiving because I love helping people. It is very rewarding even on the difficult days. I never lose my cool. This is important to avoid escalating the issue and causing frustration or anxiety for your loved one. Its rewarding to give you peace of mind. It is more than just a job for me. To be a good caregiver it is important to have the diversity and flexibility to care anyone that is in need and when it is needed. It is very important to have compassion and understanding of the care the individual is seeking. Having knowledge of the specific care of an individual is important. All of these together is my ideal GREAT caregiver. How I chose to be a caregiver is simple, it fell into place with undecided decisions. My son had several medical problems after returning home from Afghanistan. I was very involved with my sons medical attention. I worked side by side with all his medical care teams to give appropriate treatment. During his time of recovery and on going treatment, I resigned from my career so that I may provide the care my son needed. With the involvement and attention from the VA, the veterans affairs asked me to become legally his caregiver. They sent me through a quick program at Easter seals then licensed me and assigned me his caregiver. I have really enjoyed learning the different medical attention and approaches he and others need. It came natural to me. Therefore, I have decided to return to college and and change careers to be in the medical industry. I am planning on getting accepted into the RN program at my local college. I have taken a class to receive my certification for CPR. My son is excelling and maintaining his health which leaves me to have time to provide my care to others. I enjoy being a caregiver because I am giving back to the ones that are in need of care. I enjoy the companion, responsibility, and diversity. My personal achievement would be my son. I raised him on my own. I watched him tackle some hard hurdles in his life such as his health issues after returning home from war in 2011.

I became a caregiver because I wanted to make a difference I love knowing I can give my patients the care and compassion they deserve I have been doing this for 15 years and went back to college at 54 and graduated with my CNA license at the top of my class I'm dependable compassionate and have great work ethics

What makes me a great caregiver is I'm extremely understanding and very reliable. I was offered a job 2 and a half years ago as a home care aide from my cousin through a local company it was just supposed to be temporary and I ended up really liking what I was doing and stuck with it for a little over 2 years but wasn't getting paid enough. I am trying to figure out what I still want my career path to be to support myself and my daughter. I am in college right now for nursing.

I feel like what makes me a great caregiver is I put my clients or residents first. I care for them like I care for my own children. I chose to go into caregiving because at the end of the day I know I made a difference in their day making life a bit easier for them and giving them a better outlook on life knowing somebody is there for them. It's very hard for me to leave my residents because they have became part of my family, my family knows them all and even my children love my residents and my residents and coworkers love my family as well. I feel like I mainly chose this path because I wanted to be able to help others as much as others have helped and blessed me. If I can do it for my own family why not share my care with others who need it as well. It warms my soul to see my family and the people I support smile and feel loved because they know I truly care.

I became a caregiver after caring for my grandmother after she fell ill. I love being able to help people. I love making others happy and making a difference in the lives of others. This is what I enjoy doing. I am proud of the fact I change peoples lives everyday. I have been a CNA for 7 years and have worked in skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, and now corrections. I have worked with residents with dementia and alzheimers. I absolutely loved it!
