I spent 11 years in the military in which I was honorably discharged at the end of 2012. I completed and received an associate degree in art while serving. I continued my education while being unemployed from the time I was released from the military until April of 2013 and earned a bachelor degree in psychology. A week later I began practical nursing school and graduated top of my class a year later and was rewarded the leadership award. I passed my state board and earned my Practical Nursing license with an IV certification. I have since worked as an admission nurse, hospice nurse, agency nurse, floor nurse, managed a long term care facility, and was a day shift manager as well as a day shift unit supervisor. I recently completed my associate's degree in science in nursing and am waiting to sit for boards for my registered nursing license. I am looking to slowly transition from the facility setting into private duty helping people in their home setting.

I was a licensed CNA from 2004 to 2019. I became certified when I was just 17 years old and I have loved helping people my whole life. I have worked in skilled nursing facilities as well as in-home settings. While in High School, I had worked as a Dietary Aide at a local nursing home. It was there that I decided to become a CNA. I enjoyed working with the residents and knew that I wanted to do more with the elderly. I have worked in four very different environments as a CNA; home care, assisted living, nursing homes, and an ALZ.Locked unit. I enjoyed every minute of it, and became very close to some of the residents. My first position as a CNA was with a sweet couple, Bill and Helen. It was private in home care. My duties included cooking for them, insuring they ate properly, seeing to their baths, light house keeping and laundry. After a few weeks, Helen would greet me at the door with a big hug. Then we would pick out her clothes, see to her shower and she always insisted on “helping” me. It gave her a sense of pride and self-worth to help. After 10 months with them, Helen's medical status required her to return to the nursing home. Even after this, Bill would call me to help with her doctor appointments, or just to give me updates on Helen. This profile asked me to list the achievement I am most proud of, and this is the one that brings a sense of accomplishment and pride.
