I had worked for Transylvania Regional Hospital for nearly 15 years when the economy forced them to lay off 38 of us aides who were "Home Health Aides" out in Transylvania and Henderson counties. I was a prn aide, working an average of 10 to 30 hours per week, depending on the need of TRH. I cared for a variety of patients around both counties. I became a caregiver at a young age, at 15 I began sitting with a lady while her husband would go out of town. And ever since then care giving has been a passion of mine. I love the stories they tell of their lives. I love being able to care for them and show them love. One of my biggest accomplishments is when I found myself taking care of a lady who seemed to hate everyone around her and didn't want me there to help her. So as I'd go in each morning it was a struggle, But I was determined that it was her illness that caused her to be this way and eventually she came to love me and my company.
