I began my fascination with healthcare as a child. I would polish my grandmother's white nursing shoes for her in the mornings as she was getting ready for work. She worked as a CNA at a nursing home in Lexington, VA. I remember looking at her and thinking I want to be just like her when I grow up. So as an adult I received my LPN and worked 18 years in Critical Care roles as well as skilled nursing home units in Roanoke and Martinsville to honor her memory. I've spent most of my life taking care of people because that is my passion and what I'm most proud of.

My name is Rachael. I started out at 13 as a candystriper. I volunteered 100 hours. I have been a Nursing Assistant for over 30+ years. I am very caring, friendly and dependable. I enjoy helping the sick, disabled and the elderly.

I became a caregiver because my mother had entered into the medical field as I was growing up and listening to her talk about how she enjoys helping others. I decided that I should give it a try when it was my time to choose a profession. Once I got into the field at nineteen years old, I fell in love with being a caregiver and I have since then within my seven years of experience prided myself on making sure I give the best care to each and every patient I've had the pleasure to care for. What makes me a good caregiver is that I go above and beyond to please the patients I am caring for and I do my absolute best to make them feel comfortable as well as just enjoying being a wonderful companionship. Being a caregiver for me is rewarding to know when I've put a smile on each persons face and family by just coming in with the willingness to meet their expectations. I am proud knowing that I've been able to see each person through while making every day as pleasant as possible while in their need of care.

I have a passion for helping others. I most like being able to assist my residents/patients on improving their daily activities to where they are able to assist themselves more. Small steps add up to be the bigger outcome and the joy of seeing them succeed is wonderful. My personal achievement is paying close attention to not only the small details but the the bigger ones as well. This allows me to catch certain situations before a worse outcome appears. Example, bed sores, wound care, range of motion, stroke ext I'm dependable, passionate about my work and I always go that extra mile to help my residents / patients succeed on a daily basis. I am currently on the safety committee at my full time job to ensure not only my employees stay safe, but my residents / patients and visitors

I am a caregiver in my own family and always have been in my own special way. I have been told I have the patience of a saint, and I always thought that was true. I would love an opportunity to spend every day doing this for a living instead of just when the occasion arises, like when my own day her allows me to care for him. This month I am completing my associates degree in Business and can't wait to put it to some use. Only problem is, I am very caring and compassionate and the business world doesn't present a lot of jobs for those type of people. My interest and love for the elderly and children is truly intrinsic and I genuinely enjoy working with older adults and children. I take pride in renewing a senior's interest in living, helping them to exercise cognitive functioning, reinforcing socially acceptable patterns of behavior and most importantly improving the quality of life of my clients and their family members. I also love kids, I have 2 boys of my own so I enjoy working with children. I've completed the Nurse Aide training program. I have 4 years of experience working with the elderly. I'm highly motivated,a fast learner,punctual,efficient, and a great listener. I'm also easy to get along with and a people person. I have excellent communication skills.

Empathy and compassion. ... By showing both empathy and compassion as a caregiver will let the person I'm caring for allow trust also shows I care about the person and will do what I can to help them. Attracting me to being a caregiver was know the help I could bring. Also knowing one day I will need the same help. I enjoying almost every aspect of a caregiver. More so putting smiles on those faces who feel they have been forgotten. That's my achievement in this field making those happy, and feeling valued.
