I first knew I wanted to be a caregiver when I was 15 years old. I started taking care of my great-grandmother in her home and absolutely loved every aspect of it, so I made it my career. I have been working the the health field for 18 years. I have worked in home care, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and psych hospitals. I love helping people. I love to sit and hear their the stories of their past. I am a very caring person and treat all my residents as if they were my own family. My mother was an aide when I was younger and I always admired what she did and wanted to do the same. I love everything there is about being a caregiver, from the good days to the bad. Every moment, every day is very rewarding. I have two personal achievements that I am most proud of. The first one is my three children. They are my everything and my reason to get up every day and keep doing what I do. My second one is the fact that I am now back in school. I never had enough self confidence to do it but with the support of my children and my boyfriend I know I can accomplish it and be great at it.

Sometimes all it takes is someone to be there and understand what someone is going through and being able to put there trust into them. What attracted me the most about being an caregiver is that doing this kind of work has the potential to make a difference in someone's life. What I enjoy the most about being an caregiver is creating an bond with the individual. It's so amazing to grow and bond with someone that you know needs you some individuals don't always have family members so you become their family members. One of my personal achievements I am very proud of is I passed my CNA class test but was unable to take my test due to COVID-19. But I am still very grateful for being able to push myself and show that I could do the work. And one day be able to go to college and receive my lpn.

I became a caregiver because my dad started getting sick, then we soon found out he had cancer. I knew he needed care 24/7. After he passed I continued my career and got my CNA and worked 3 years at a nursing home, and have realized that isn't for me. I have decided to move onto home health care where I can be 1:1 with people.

My favorite thing about being a caregiver is the residents. I was first attracted to this job because I felt that it was important for me to play a role in my community is someway, and helping to care for the elderly was a good fit for me. I am friendly and fun and I love to learn new skills and to learn about the people that I am working with.
