I have always been a caregiver, taking care of my grandparents, my aunt before she was transferred to a nursing facility. My aunt had numerous health issues. I also took care of my husband, he had two major surgeries last year, he had to learn to walk again. During the process of caring for my husband, I realized that I enjoy helping people and I resigned from law enforcement and I am currently working as a caregiver part-time for Comfort Keepers of Florence SC since November of last year. I'm proud to say that I took good care of my husband and he is getting stronger every day, caregiving gives me the opportunity to give back to our seniors, I enjoy putting a smile on their faces. I love helping others. I'm very attentive to their needs and I have great patience. I know that one day I will get older and need help so I've decided to dedicate my time to the elderly while I still have time to do so. What I love most about being a caregiver is the fact that I'm able go gain knowledge through my client's and help them with their daily living activities. Often times my client's are able to confide in me because they have no one else. One personal achievement that I'm proud of is going back to school to further my knowledge in the health field. I kinda always was a caregiver and didn't know it. Both of my parents worked and I was much older than my step brother and sister, so I did all the house work and taking care of them from an early age. I also grew up with my aunt who was a spastic quadriplegic, so I learned how to do a lot there. I have had many patients, most were the ones everyone else had bad trouble with. I'm kinda the guy, that I can handle pretty much anything from full Dementia, to full quadriplegic. I have my state license in CNA, ACNA, and Phlebotomy. I have excellent experience and very good references. The last question that I am proud of is: My mother was passing in the hospital and couldn't have her placed in a home. So I brought her home with me and kept her alive for another month before she passed away with me. At the end she had full blown dementia, it was quite an ordeal to go through. So with that experience it has taught me a lot of what other families could be going through.
