I have never wanted to do anything other than nursing; I was sure about it back in grade school! I enjoy making a difference in peoples lives - providing quality care to my patients and education and resources to families. Most of my career as a Registered Nurse has been with adults/geriatrics but have enjoyed working with school age children for the last 4 years. I have been told by many patients/families that I am easily approachable and have excellent communication skills.
I am a very compassionate and empathetic person, I can understand or relate to almost any situation. I love to help others and see them able to do the things they love. I have been a CNA for 8 years. I had a high risk pregnancy and had to be on bed rest. Decided to try something different when I went back to work. I was then hired on at People First and became an in home caregiver for individuals with special needs. I became certified to work with members of DDD. I have Article 9, DCW training as well. I then was promoted to the Admin. position of HCBS Coordinator and am now supervisor of all of our caregiver's. My biggest personal achievement is my kids. I have an 11 year old son and a 4 year old daughter. They are my miracle babies and my whole world.
I consider myself a people person having worked with children and adults in a helping capacity for nearly 40 years. I am quite active, hiking throughout the week and lifting weights 3 day per week. Currently I work part time at an adult daycare center. I enjoy helping seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's disease with activities of daily living. I understand the special needs and challenges of people experiencing dementia and Alzheimer's disease. I truly enjoy being assistance to and giving comfort to those with special needs.
My childhood and family background has prepared me to be a caregiver. Through the health challenges I faced as a child, along with being a caretaker to my father most of that childhood and into my teens years, I became well experienced in taking care of others. From an early age, I became proficient in anticipating the moods and emotional disposition of those in need of daily attention. Before I took on a role of a caretaker for my father, I was well attended to by my mother. She bestowed upon me character traits of gentleness and compassion. In addition, she taught me to use intuition as a tool for specialized care for others in need. I enjoy being a caretaker who can help bring peace of mind and comfort to those in immediate need. I also believe I can provide the service to do "what needs to be done" when called upon to do so.
