I believe that I am a great caregiver because this term represents two different concepts that I am passionate about: care and giving. One of the most vital characteristics of a dedicated caregiver is the ability to provide comfort to individuals who need it most, and the most rewarding byproduct of this field is the gratitude and appreciation I perceive from the patients. I became a caregiver for two main reasons; primarily because the ability to assist others appeals to me. The other reason why I entered this field is because ever since I was young, I have appreciated the efforts of caregivers around me who altruistically performed their duties for both relatives and acquaintances. There's a difference between providing a service and providing a service with a full heart and with the intent to not only perform a duty, but to also be human. I recognize that this is a stressful time in the client lives, and that during the present, it is most important to give them the attention that they require in order to heal both physically and even mentally. What I am particularly proud of in terms of my achievements are that I achieved my intended goals and wanting to obtain an Associate Degree as a registered nurse. This is something that I always wanted to accomplish, and as I am currently working on my BSN. I've been an active caregiver for the past 15 years or so, both as a live-in and live-out caregiver. Most of my working experience comes from outside of the US. I started working as a caregiver because needed a job and earn money(do not let yourself fooled by anyone that says otherwise ) and as a single mom of three you can guess that i had no choice in choosing what i considered at that time that i would like. During the years i earned so much more than money. I started out with a job and ended up with having more and more family members as each and one of the patients that i assisted become in some way my mother/father, my daughter/son and a challenge to build up my empathic skills . Ended up understanding that caregiving is not a JOB although it's paid. You treat not just people but a very fragile class of people. They definitely need our assistance in daily chores but that is not enough , they need somebody that does not define them only trough their disability. Caregiving it's not just about taking care of a body it is a 360 degree assistance which consider the person in a holistic way (body,mind and spirit) As a caregiver i might fail in some chores(nobody is perfect) but one thing that i am proud of is that as much as i could i tried to bring joy. Hard but necessary was when I had to assist patients in an point where life comes to an end. In some cases I sing their favourite song, hold a hand, give a caress to the person in need and explain to family members that it is perfectly normal to be scared or to suffer and to assure them that they are not alone.

I am a 29 year old woman who went into the field of nursing because, as cliche as it sounds, I wanted to help others. Prior to becoming an RN in the Emergency Room I worked as an aide in the emergency room, was a private home aide, & volunteered as an EMT for both Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and Central Islip Hauppauge Ambulance Corp.

I think that we were put on this earth to help each other. It was a trait that my siblings and myself received from our parents. I just love spending time with the elderly. I think they are full of knowledge and very helpful to us. I enjoy assisting them and making them feel as though they are a contributing member of society and not just a cast away. I will help them to feel that they still have more to live for and that life is still worth living.
