I have been a caregiver for over 17 years. I most certainly love what I do. What makes me a great caregiver is that i am very patient, gentle and sensitive to the needs of my clients. I am very caring and compassionate and that is what has drawn me to become a caregiver because people need care and they most definitely need to be shown compassion. What I love most about being a caregiver is the many different awesome people i get to meet and care for as well as their families. I was just recognized for being caregiver of the month from one of my current employers.
I became a Caregiver after over 27 years of being a Certified Nursing Assistant and Patient Care Tech. Although I enjoy working in LTC facilities, Hospitals, and Rehabilitation facilities I really enjoy the ability to give one-on-one care....it is very personable. I pride myself on the care and attentiveness I share with my clients. I am CPR certified, am knowledgeable in gluecose care, Catherter and colostomy care. and again I have worked in the care of the elderly over 27 years.
I became interested in care giving because my Mom was in an automobile accident which left her paralyzed & my sister-in-law was in an automobile accident which left her with a brain injury. I was my mom's main caregiver from age 17 until I was married at age 22 & again when she moved in with me for the last 5 years of her life. She had bladder cancer. I became a caregiver in Greenwood because I really enjoy helping people to be able to live at home without having to live in a nursing home. I promised my mom she would never have to live in a nursing home, and she never did. It wasn't easy but it was worth it. I prefer not to bath & dress only because I have had to do this for my mom most of my life and it's never been easy, it was something I did because it needed to be done, but if I get to know the person and they need help every once in awhile, I will do anything to help them. I was with 2 of my clients until they passed away, even thought it wasn't in my "job description", their families allowed me to visit them. It wasn't easy, but I know they appreciated it and it made it worth it. I prefer the one on one attention I can give when working with an individual in their home.

I also find comfort in knowing that I can provide care for someone who needs assistance in their home or in a facility providing extra help and comfort. I am proud of my complishments in getting my degrees by working hard and earning them from college. I am most proud of showing my family that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

I became a Nursing Assistant when my grandfather was diagnosed with Cancer it was hard on my grandmother, but once I stepped in with bathing, helping with light housekeeping around the house or just letting my grandmother get out for an hour or two her load was lightened it was a blessing. I felt giving back to my grandfather for all the love and support he has given me all the years was truly from the heart, he later passed away within three months then my grandmother was diagnosed with Cancer and I stepped in for her with just myself and my little children and again it was a blessing but challenging at same time but God gave me strength through my trail and made me strong. If i can give that to everyone I come in contact with am complete because it's from the heart helping someone with a bath, dressing them for the day, of just having a conversation means a lot to so many.. I love what I do and can give another individual
