Hello! My name is Desiree and I have been caregiving professionally since 2008 beginning with my cousin with developmental disabilities. My first job after high school was housekeeping in nursing home and hospital and I always found myself trying to interact with the clients, whether it just be conversations or pushing them back to their rooms after meals. I have mostly worked in CILA homes taking care of the developmentally disabled and I absolutely enjoyed every moment and every prrsonality I ever met! Never a full moment, I began as a DSP and was a house manager for the same company. I have also worked some side jobs taking care of the elderly, a couple until they passed, and another until she just didn't need the extra help Amy more. I have wanted be a caregiver for as long as I can remember, I had a grandpa that had lost both legs, one due to a stroke and the other because of Gangrene. My grandmother need a lot of help with him from changing diapers to helping with feeding once he got a feeding tube, and I was always their! I don't feel like myself unless I'm helping someone else live their best life!

I am caring, understanding, outgoing, social, and I like to make things fun! I also have a lot of experience in being a caregiver, as I was my mother's caregiver for many years. I love being able to have a close or one on one relationship with the ones I care for. My first personal achievement would be passing my CNA class. My next will be passing the state exam.

I am a twenty year-old college student living and studying in Southern Illinois. I am very active in my church, and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking or kayaking. Originally from Alabama, I spent my early childhood observing and helping my mother and grandmother care of my great-grandmother, who spent 40 years in a wheel chair due to a stroke. I consider myself fortunate for this personal experience with my great-grandmother, Ruth, because I witnessed firsthand how important it is to handle disability with dignity, respect, humor, and practicality. As my great-grandmothers abilities and needs changed, I watched her caregivers work to help find a "new normal," not only for my grandma, but for our entire family. As a caregiver, my personal objective is to not only ensure my patient's health needs are met, but also assist my patient in finding enjoyment or interest in each day.
