I came to caring for the elderly when my father's health began to fail following my retirement. I began working for the adult foster care where he resided when they needed a cook. I took on more responsibility when they expanded their business. I am familiar with different dietary needs and enjoy cooking. I have conducted exercise and craft sessions. I feel the elderly deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. This includes personal hygiene and living in a clean environment.

I am a very kind, mindful and outgoing person. I am very observant and always do my absolute best at anything and everything I do. Especially when it comes to the care of another human. After my first caregiving position, I knew right away that this is what I am meant to do. I was impressed at how natural it came to me. Knowing that what I'm doing is helping others and making their lives better, putting a smile on their face, is what attracts me into this field of work. I enjoy getting to know each resident I care for. Each one of them have their own unique and amazing personalities that I feel lucky to be around. I have been caregiving for over eight years, and working hard allowed me to become a supervisor. It has been one of the most rewarding accomplishments I've achieved.

Hello, my name is Shelby. I have been a caregiver for 12 years both in home and in facility settings. I am a motivated worker, detail oriented, and always looking to learn new skills to help improve the way I can help others. I grew up going to work with my mother on the weekends at the care facility she worked at and fell in love with the work. As soon as I was old enough I started in the same field. I have worked with the elderly, also with mentally disabled patients as well. I have experience with Alzheimers, dementia, bi-polar, schizophrenia and many other conditions. I found my love for the this work at a young age it has always been my passion to help others, I enjoy seeing the smiles I am able to create even by helping with the smallest tasks.

People consider me to be a great caregiver because I treat my residents how I would want my own family members to be treated. I became a caregiver because of the stories I have heard about the mistreatment of residents in care homes and felt I could make difference. I enjoy the satisfaction my residents feel that they are in good hands with me. I love seeing them smile and enjoy thier conversations. As a 3rd shift caregiver, I guess my personal achievements are knowing that my residents are safe and secure throughout the night.

Caregiving is something I have always come to know and come by naturally since childhood. I grew up in an AFC and became an official caregiver at 18. Since then I have continued to gain experience and education within the field hands on. This has helped me to adapt to many different residents in need of specific care and how to meat their needs to the best of my abilities. I strive to fulfill every residents requests and make life as easy and stress free as I can for those who are unable to do this for them self. I'm a 47 yr old female caregiver who has been in this field since the age of 20. I've raised 6 children 4 of whom were mine. I have taken care of many different types of people, personalities and differences in many areas such as age ,illness, and disabilities. I'm a very straight forward caring individual who has a passion for caring for those who can no longer do everything they once could, and whom need a bit of help.I personally took care of my grandfather who died 7 years ago. Once he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer he passed within 28 days at home surrounded by love and his family. My greatest accomplishment in this field was when I was a house manager at Countryside llc. I took care of a man whom gave me severe issues in the beginning caring for him ,as he was not happy with his failing health and the fact that his independence was quickly being stripped from him because of his disease. I was determined to win him over ,and I did so quickly and I became his favorite caregiver. He declined quickly ,and I made sure his care was given even if I had to come from home (as I didn't live far )and wasn't on the clock. Some of the aides were afraid to administer his medication as it was potent, and if given to much could cause him to pass. He did pass eventually and I was mentioned in his obituary by his family as his special angel and caretaker. Not many of us are recognized for doing our job. I see the fact that his family realized this and paid special tribute to me a very big achievement, as they saw I went above and beyond as a caretaker ,a friend and was given the honor to care for and make someone else's end of days brighter & easier. So as far as I'm concerned ,if I can make someone else's life easier and more comfortable as their ending there last years on this earth ;then I've accomplished what God put me here to do.
