I became a senior caregiver almost two years ago, prior to that I worked in disability for five years. Many of my friends say that I have a lot of compassion and would have made a great mother. My strengths are the ability to listen, be quiet, enter the persons world I am responsible for. I feel strong about acknowledging people's dignity especially as we age and become dependent. Over the past two years I have worked with approximately two dozen different seniors, all with different needs, and circumstances. What do I like about being a caregiver? Knowing that I am truly adding value to someone's life is one of the most rewarding experiences I can have and I feel very blessed and grateful for each of them. A personal achievement that I am very proud of is that I founded and community magazine while living in Australia that gives a good wholesome reflection of the lives and communities in a rural area. I sold the magazine to an Australian before I returned to the states and the magazine is still going strong! I am a Christian but acknowledge all religions. I am a very open hearted person, and would love to meet with any family who thinks I might be the right person to assist their loved one.
I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant with the State of North Carolina for 9 years. My certification is current. I am also BLS/CPR certified which is also current. I have worked in long term care settings as well as assisted living. I am very passionate about what I do. I love helping people and taking care of them when they can no longer care for themselves. I am compassionate and empathetic. I have a heart for nursing.

In addition, I have a degree in Radiology Technology with over 20 years of experience in hospitals, managed a medical office and responsible for patient care. I am seeking a position as a caregiver, companion/assistant. I would also be available as a caretaker for a private property. My personal experiences in care giving include: 3 years caring for my mother until her death, 2 years caring for a friend until her death, and 9 months care giving for a friend until her death. My qualifications include: well-educated, medical experience over 20 plus years (classes taken for CNA), good listener, very organized and good at organization, attention to details, knowledge of nutrition and health issues. I have excellent references, sent upon request. I am available for part-time work of approximately 20 hours per week: however I am not able to work week-ends because I have to care for my elderly father. In the case of a job as a property caretaker I would be more available due to this type of postion. Due to my educational and medical experiences, I work very well with others and patient.
I became a caregiver so that I could make a positive change in this world, and fulfill my life's purpose. I have been a companion, homemaker and PCA for five years and enjoy being with the elderly very much. Mindfulness, compassion, honesty and integrity are all key components to my services and care. Add in responsible, always reliable, with impeccable references and a smile...and you have me. I love my work and do not consider it to be work at all.
I am a dependable, healthy, hard-working individual. In addition I have more than twelve years of healthcare experience - in home care and in a hospital. I am interested in focusing on home care as I find the one-on-one relationship more personal and rewarding and have the skills and temperament to do the work. The accomplishment I am proudest of is having owned and operated a successful cafe/coffee shop.
I am deeply committed to treating my clients with dignity and respect, my goal is to win their trust and alleviate any embarrassment or anxiety they may feel when needing assistance other personal care. I also excel at planning creative activities customized to resident needs and physical/mental abilities. Examples include pet visits from a nearby animal shelter, game nights, outdoor activities, art and visits with my own service dogs if that is something they would enjoy. It can be challenging at times, but I truly enjoy working with each one of my clients. Though I strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the clients, the ongoing lessons I have learned from them have in return made a lasting impact in my life.

Before I became a care giver I had years or experience dealing with healthcare issue in an administrative capacity as well as navigating the system to find appropriate care for my own parents. I loved finding solutions and dealing with issues which would help loved ones improve the quality of life for their family member. These experiences lead me to want to provide hands on care/companionship for those needing more assistance than their families could provide. I've worked privately for families, and through agencies, with my main goal being to enhance quality of life. My clients have all been in the later third of life, most having some form of dementia often with no family close enough to visit on a regular basis. When I worked on my own, it was easier to participate in more actives with client, such as spending holidays together. One year in particular my client and I bought her Christmas tree and other live decorations from the local garden club. We decorated the house beautifully, and prepared together a wonderful Christmas dinner. My family and I including our three dogs, spent the whole day with the client. We all thought it was the best Christmas ever, except poor "Kitty", who was not to thrilled with the canine guests. We took lots of pictures and sent to the client's daughters who lived out of state. They were so pleased to see how happy and relaxed their mother was.
I became a caregiver because I have always loved the medical field and also helping people. It is the most fulfilling job to have. I put my whole heart into taking care of not only their needs but I am their friend as well. Someone who they can always trust. I don't just like being a caregiver, I absolutely love it. To be able to help someone and care for them the way they truly need to be is the best feeling in the world. I am most proud of my care giving job at the moment. I take care of a paralyzed man. I have been trained as a CNA on the job but I don't have my certification, however also do housework. Feed him. Bathe him. Get him in and out of bed. I do everything he needs. This job humbles me daily for him to be so happy in his condition. I have taken up quickly and learnt a lot. That's my proudest accomplishment. One thing about me, very hard worker with the biggest heart you'll ever meet. I put everything into making sure he is taken care of, and happy. I always knew this was the field I was called to be in. Side note; I have a copy of my background check I will gladly fax to you.
