I am a 28 yr old caregiver/medication technician I have been in this field for 7yrs. When I was little I loved making sure my grandmother and great grandmother was okay and I always helped them around the house. I wanted to continue doing that when I grew up but also help other people as well. I love being able to help somebody achieve a goal or an activity. It makes my job worth it.

I am very happy and upbeat. I love helping and caring for people. I love giving companionship and care. I assisted taking care of an elderly woman in her last year of life. I gave her some many laughs and kept her happy in her life. I helped her walk for her family on Mother's Day. I took her last family photo. I had her do a thankful bowl for her family. It was the hardest and best year of my life!! I grew to consider all as part of my family as well as them considering me as well. It is a very fulfilling job, helping others help themselves.

I love love to care for people who cannot care for themselves. Caring for the elderly enables them to not worry about the things they cannot do anymore and celebrate the things that they can, not only supporting them in their care needs, but also providing them with a valued friend and confidant. I am married with 3 kids; 26,23,14. I am dependable, on time, & caring. I first got my interest in taking care of people when I helped look after my dad when he was dying with cancer. I am proud of my self for completing & getter my CNA at 49 years old. I'm very involved in my church and I love people.

1. Honestly, I became a caregiver not realizing the extent of care that was needed in the field. I observed my mother providing care for my father before he passed, and it was hard for me to see him passing away. Since I have become a caregiver, I understand the quality of care that is needed in order to help rehabilitate those who are dependent upon someone they can trust. 2. In this field,I have learned a lot about myself as a person. I never expected to become educated on the subject of self. I have learned that you should not take life for granted, disabled does not mean that a person is not human and that they want to be treated special because of their disability, how the small things in life mean so much to a person when they are unable to provide for themselves such as: a warm hello, brushing their hair, putting fresh flowers in a vase on the dresser or kitchen table. 3. A personal achievement that makes me proud is that, over the years, I can greet most family members that I have provided care for, and they smile and welcome me with memories of how I touched their lives as a caregiver for their loved ones, or those that I have provided care for to rehabilitate them during their short recovery. 4. What is calming to the mind as a caregiver is, going home that day knowing that you have made a difference in someone else's life. I am a great care giver due to my warm and empathetic personality. I am going to be a physical therapist, and I was originally attracted to care giving for the practical experience. I enjoy caregiving for the opportunity to meet and learn from the people who need caregiving and their loved ones. I value my time with my clients and I enjoy making them smile. I'm proud of the fact that my last client was always excited to see me. I'm also proud of my education and practical experience. I have a Master's degree in exercise science, and one of my projects was about developing a motor learning program for people with Alzheimer's. Unfortunately, the program did not take off, but I learned great skills to improve quality of life.

I have been described my clients and employers as kind, caring, and compassionate. Not only do I complete tasks, but I focus on the client holistically. This includes the psychosocial aspect; communication, and building a professional, trusting relationship. The nursing profession is my absolute passion and I ensure that my clients, including families are well-cared for and happy.
