As a caregiver, I've always had a heart of service. I had received an Excellence In Action award from Union City Police for preforming CPR & First-Aid on a kid that had a pre-existing heart condition. I was taught CPR in a class that was mandatory for my job teaching Pre-K not knowing how soon I would have to use this new skill. But after that day, I realized how important it was to step up to the plate and be the one to take action. It has to be one of my most proud moments.

I have a varied background in providing individual care to people of all ages and conditions with more than 12 years of experience in the field. In my current position of individual caregiver to a quadriplegic patient I assist my client with daily living activities such as getting out of bed toileting showering getting dressed and other duties as needed. I am able to physically handle the work load and I also have a caring bedside manner and good interpersonal skills. My organizational skills allow me to complete all tasks in a timely manner and to be able to devote time to helping with other household duties such as cleaning laundry and dishes. I have been a Cna for 10 years. It kind of runs in the family actually. It started when I took care of my Dad the last years of his life. He had diabetes, Parkinson's, dementia, kidney failure due to the diabetes, and some other medical conditions. I have always loved taking care of people. A good motto I go by is "quality over quantity". It is about the care, the smiles, and the little things with my patients/clients. Keeping them home as long as possible is always the goal.

Caregiving is something that creeps up on us. It starts off with a little task such as taking our dad to a doctors appointment, or helping mom with housework. We find ourselves doing the grocery shopping and refilling prescriptions, eventually, we are doing more and more. At some point, we realize we have made a commitment to take care of someone else. But it doesn't always start this way. It could be a major life changing heath event that triggers caregiving: stroke, heart attack, or even an accident. Or maybe one day we're struck with the reality of our father slowly losing his memory. Time stops and all our energy goes to caring for our loved one. Caregiving has become our new career, and we adjust to a new normal. That's how it began for me. Growing up in a family full of nurses- I naturally had a passion to take care of others, but when my grandpa developed Alzheimer's that's where my path of caregiving truly began. After my grandpa passed- I took on the role of caring for my grandmother who at that point lost her memory, was completely blind and hard of hearing. After she also passed- I decided to pursue Nursing. Providing care and comfort for others in their time of need is what drives me.

My name is Brianna and I have been a caregiver through a company for 2 and a half years and a private duty caregiver for 1 year and a half. Caregiving is not only a job to me, I care about each and everyone of my clients I have ever taken care of, they are all special to me in one unique way or another. I don't look at these people as if they are leaving us I strive to make them feel as if they are getting better and making a difference in their life is a plus for me.
