I am a caregiver by nature. I am married with four children who are older now, so caregiving has been a daily routine for most of my life. My personality is designed for caregiving. I'm dependable, flexible, responsible, and patient. In my years as a parent and a probation officer, I also learned to actively listen and help people best focus on doing what is best for them in a gentle and patient manner. I think working with someone who needs help appeals to me because it will allow them freedom to continue to actively live their lives. I have seen the value this adds with several elderly members of my family.

I think I'm a great caregiver because I genuinely care about others. I treat people the way I want myself or my family members treated. I have enjoyed a 32 year career as a Respiratory Therapist primarily with children in a hospital setting, but being a caregiver doesn't have age restrictions! I am now an active empty nester and am looking to continue caring for others outside of the hospital setting in a little more flexible way. :)

I began my caregiving path as a preschool teacher. I spent 12 years caring for children and 2 of those years teaching kindergarten. After my husband passed away I focused on my children. I began an amazing opportunity in senior living care facility 5 years ago as direct care while studying to get my bachelors degree in psychology, and now work as a case manager for 3 group homes.

I make it a point to listen to my client. Talk to the family to find out what they do and don't like treat everyone like it's my relatives. I have always wanted to be a caregiver as a child I took care of my Barbie dolls and stuffed l.m..animals and my sister dolls. Any care I give my client to make there day better is a good day they have enough to worry about I just want to make it easier. My greatest achievement was a client live alone and a storm was coming I stayed with her for two days til she felt safe.

There is a wonderful feeling that I get when I see a flower in bloom. I may have started with only a seed, but I plant in the richest soil and add the warm loving embrace of sunshine and the gentle touch of rain. Although I'm not much on botany, I get this feeling when I see a beautiful person in my care bloom with radiance and enthusiasm for life once again. This is the joy that I have as I share my passion with the loved one's that you entrust me with. Care is more than jobs or chores or tasks that needs be done. It's doing what I love, to increase the quality of life in those that need it the most and keeping the energy and zest for life alive in those that don't.
