I'm a talkative friendly & outgoing person. I am passionate about nursing and health care....especially for the elderly! I went to school to be a nursing assistant when I was in my late 40's because straight out of college I got married (32 years now!) and had two daughters. AFTER the youngest one graduated from high school in 2010, I was then able to pursue my real dream of getting certified to be able to care for clients and hopefully make their lives a bit better!

I have 6years experience as a caregiver working in private home settings, group home, retirements homes and rehabs. It makes me happy helping people in need. Compassion and empathy for others are traits that enables me to work well as a caregiver. The study of Gerontology at Edwards university convinced me that Positive Aging or Aging Gracefully is really attainable with the right tools and the right attitude in place. My mother assisted the elderly, I would help her from time to time. I knew it was the right thing to do. When I graduated high school, I went to work in a Nursing home as a Nurses Aide. The thing I enjoy most about caregiving is being able to encourage others to live and enjoy life one day at a time in spite of the circumstances. Securing the 83 hrs of Gerontology at St. Edwards University and the time I learned and worked for the City of Austin for 22 years. I started as a volunteer, Senior nutrition aide, promoted to Site Mgr. , promoted to Site Mgr. Supervisor, Promoted to Project Director, Senior Employment. When I retired I was acting Program manager of Senior Programs. These are two achievement I'm proud of. The greatest achievement was when a Hospice client was motivated, got up from bed and starting fixing her breakfast again.

I became a caregiver because I have a big heart when it come to People. And what I like most about being a caregiver is: Making a difference in someone life. The smile on their faces Is so over whelming and makes me feel I have done my job right. I have always enjoyed helping others so I know I am doing the right thing. What I'm most proud of achieving is : What I have learned over the last 15 years as a caregiver has been lots and lots of hands on training, Starting out as my parents caregiver and other family members, as a young adult. I have learned some interesting things and it has just stuck with me, I guess one of the hardest things in health care is working with hospice especially when it is a family member. Lost my sister to Cancer a few years ago. Nothing is easy when it comes to cancer, but my sister was comfortable knowing I was there with her til the end. A little about me: When I was a little girl my mother worked in a nursing home same place for 16yrs, everyday after school I went to my mother work, Oh I thought I was a big shot, she would let me do little things for her patients and they just fell in love with me. And to see all those people with big smiles on their faces just made my day.. But the best part of it was when my mother always told me, your good with people and your here on earth for a good purpose. and I now know exactly what she meant.!! I moved From Texas to here in Phoenix Az, I development Breast cancer 2014 and wasn't able to work due to being so Fatigue from all the Chemo and the last 6-weeks of Radiation, As I got stronger I merge slowly back to working, I am proud of the woman I have become today and all I have achieved in my life time.

I am a very friendly and emphatic person, I have also experience with adults who have disabilities. What attracted me to being a caregiver is my passion in hospitality. What I enjoy the most about being a caregiver is the joy that I bring to patients, I love to see people happy and I enjoy helping others. A personal achievement that I am proud of is i graduated from my medical assistant program before I graduated from high school.
