My grandfather died of ALS, and it broke my heart to watch him go from running his company and church to basically in the end, being completely incapacitated, but although he couldn't move a muscle to speak or care for himself, his mind was completely cognizant of all that was happening. It was heartbreaking to witness. That was when I decided I wanted to be a nurse.
