What makes me a great care giver is that, I have the ability to listen to my client concerns and find ways to assist them. I am a great listener, an advocator and I get alone with people very well. I like treating my clients as people not object. Their happiness comes first. I became a caregiver because i feel like it is my calling. My passion for this field is something extraordinary. I grew up seeing so many family members suffered traumatically. Many of them faced a lot of psychological issues. I felt like it was my responsibility to go out there and learn the tools so I can direct them to a better path. What I like about being a caregiver is to see my clients smile alone with any other person I come across. I love making a difference into their lives. Hi there!!!! I have always had a passion for helping others. Whether it was taking a position in a daycare or public school or assisted living or residential home; I have been working in the human service field for as long as I was legally able too! And before I jumped into the workforce, I babysat children in my community since 11 years old; so being a caregiver has always come naturally to me. During my 20's while studying to obtain my bachelors degree, I worked as a PSS for seven years for two home health care agencies. I absolutely loved working with clients in their homes, as I'm able to provide exceptional care in the environment that they feel most comfortable. I find it extremely rewarding to help others in need. In my opinion, the elderly are the most vulnerable population to be financially and physically abused, and it's important for caregivers to advocate, so that they are able to receive the proper care the later years of their lives. I enjoy working with a client in home, as I find that everyone has their own culture and it's fascinating to learn about someone's past life experiences. I think it is very important to be open minded, and I would fully respect my clients way of living and not show judgment. I have great communication skills and can adapt to whatever style of communication my client prefers. I take constructive criticism very seriously; I want to make sure I am giving the best care, but more importantly the right care, for what my clients personalized needs are. I promise to treat my clients with dignity and respect, while providing them support so that they are able to continue living successfully and safely, in the comfort of their own homes.

I describe myself as an outgoing, compassionate person with a ton of empathy. I started realizing I wanted to be a caregiver at the age of 9. I accompanied my mother to her job during the summers. She was the manager for Eastern Agency on Aging and provided weekly lunch and bingo activities for a group of elderly people. I really enjoyed helping people and the people I helped were extremely appreciative. I felt very rewarded, even at that young age. I had children young, became a CNA at the age of 23 and have been working in different settings with a geriatric population ever since.

I love spending time with people and genuinely feeling like I am making a difference in someone's life. I am excited to be a caregiver because I know I can offer the help that many are looking for! I enjoy seeing progress or atleast helping the client comfortable in whatever situation they are in. It's the small steps that make me happy to see people make. To be able to help someone live a "normal" life with some help make me feel amazing as well as seeing that they are properly cared for.

I like the idea of giving back, helping those who can't take care of them selves anymore. I still find myself learning from patients. I've spent most of my life in the building field, home remodeling. I've enjoyed my change of career.

My Mom was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in 2009. I became her Plenary Guardian and caregiver until she left us in 2014. Since then, my mission and vision was to open a company to take care of Seniors and help their caregivers with respite so they can live their lives where they are most comfortable. Thus, Friends of Virginia was created. My long term goal is to open several gated tiny home communities throughout Maine for people with dementia. I am not only available to the Seniors but to their families as well so they can get a break and let their Seniors age in their current homes as long as possible.
