I became a caregiver because I'm empathetic and compassionate by nature. I've always found great joy in helping people so when I found my way into the field of caregiving, I knew it felt right. By paying close attention to client's and family's needs and wants, I better served and helped improve the lives of those I cared for. I was attracted to becoming a caregiver because my mother came to live with me after a terminal diagnosis. I found it to be an honor to care for her and realized I did it quite well. It gave me caregiver experience and all that comes with it, which is quite demanding along with its rewards. What I enjoy most about being a caregiver is enjoying watching my client's lives improve once they get that extra care and attention, along with getting to know the individuals personal histories and how their lives have shaped them. A personal achievement I am proud of is spending 8 years on the advisory board of not -for-profit Hospice of the Valleys before I left California. I helped raise funds for the signature event held annually called Day of Wine & Chocolate. Each year the gala got larger and more money was raised to benefit patients and their family at the most important time of need. This hospice never turned anyone away, even if they could not afford services.
