Like a lot of people who are caregivers I started out taking care of a loved one, who was suffering from Lupus and Heart Disease. She was a retired nurse who was full of knowledge and more than happy to pass it on to me during the ten years I took care of her. I found that not only was I a very good caregiver but that I actually enjoyed it and found it very fulfilling! I think one of the most important things I learned while caring for seniors is that even though they may need help with many different things, some of which are very personal, they are still an adult not a child. I've found people appreciate that, I know I would if the situation was reversed. My second ten years in this business have been helping wonderful people who have found themselves in need of quality care. Their conditions have included Diabetes, Parkinson, Strokes, Dementia and Alzheimer's and other ailments. Some have just needed a little help and companionship. I was very happy that I could be there for them and make a difference in their day with whatever level of care they needed, and to help the family feel confident that their loved one had someone competent and caring to depend on. Back in 2016, I left Dietary and became a full time nursing assistant. I worked as a nursing assistant in a ALF for about 6 months; I was offered another job opportunity at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and decided to try a new setting, where I stuck around for 3 years. Currently, I work at Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital, formerly known as Complex Care at Ridgelake and have been there for about 6 months. I absolutely love patient care, I've been doing it for 4 years now. Meeting new patients and families everyday and watching them recover is a great experience, but I think it's even greater when you can build a connection with the patient and family. It would be an honor to work for a family that's willing to let me help make their life easier.
