Growing up most of them opt to pass away at home leaving my grandmother, my mother and myself to care and comfort them. Then I knew that I was born to be a caregiver and a nurtured nurtueror. I have been a paid at a couple of hospitals and various long term care, rehab, hospice and assisted living facilites. My greatest accomplishment as a aid is seeing the faces of patients and family when I have made a patient feel better, or brought a patients pulse back. Since I was a little girl going to the nursing home with my school choir singing and dancing for the residents always made them happy . At 19 I went and got my C.N.A license and went from there pursing my passion . I went to school a couple years back and got my Medical Assistant Certification which im proud of and want to go back for my R.N.

I am a 41 year old female. I have 4 children. My youngest was born in 2002 and was my inspiration for becoming a caregiver. He was born with a couple of syndromes and lots of medical challenges. This I became very good at taking care of him. Was a natural caretaker when I was growing up as I was told from family members and friends. This situation made me want to become a professional caregiver and has allowed me to be able to see some of the most common medical equipment and machinery that is used these days. It has tought me a lot.

I was a caregiver to a quadriplegic professor when I was in college to help pay for my tuition. After college, I continued doing private care on the side for some Alzheimer patients at a nursing home. In 2004, I enrolled at a nursing school for a year and a half. I did not finish my degree, but I did receive my certification as a CNA and as a Medication Technician. I keep up to date with the newest discoveries and findings in the world of medicine. Even though I have not had any new medical training, I am current on my knowledge of diseases, medications and side effects of such medications. For instance, I am aware that when you care for an Alzheimer's patient, you step into his/her world, and not insist that he/she conforms to your expectations of what is real. I am compassionate and capable. All of the kids are either all grown or almost grown, but I still have this vast need to nurture. My husband refuses to be smothered, so, I need to go out of the house and find someone else who would appreciate being cared for :-) My kids are my biggest accomplishment. The eldest is going to medical school this summer, and the middle one is attending UMKC in August. The youngest one is doing great as a Sophomore while giving out just enough sass to maintain her teenage status.
