I cared for a 23 old autistic/cerebral palsy gentlemen for 7 years, until his family and him moved from Little Elm to Rockwall TX. I changed him, fed him, cooked for him, cleaned/bathed him, gave medication 3x daily and drove him around to appointments and outings. I also did light cleaning. My patient suffered from seizures and was selectively verbal in that he could only say a few words but could communicate with hand symbols and noises. My shift was 7am-6pm Mon-Fri and occasionally on weekends and overnight. He was a bigger gentlemen, over 6"0 and weighed over 200 lbs, however I am 5"8 and have an athletic build, so I had no issues. I started nursing school while I was caring for him and I would often study and read to him when he was getting ready for bed or a nap. I am 2 years into my schooling for my BSN. I openly communicated with his Mom and sisters about any issues/concerns and fixed them promptly if there were any.

I was a home health aide for a company that had me work for an elderly couple who the wife had Dementia and the husband Alzheimer's along with COPD, I worked here until I moved to Denton in 2012. I cooked simple meals, did light cleaning and changed the gentlemen's bedding/diapers and rotated him throughout the day along with exercises, as he was paralyzed from the waist down. Gave medications and read to the Mrs in the evenings as she had trouble falling asleep. Along with bed baths and regular baths for along with grooming for both the Mr. and Mrs. I would also take the Mrs to Dr. appointments and hair/nail appointments. I also did paperwork and bills on the computer for the couple and agency.
