About Kathryn

What makes me a great caregiver is that I can relate to being the patient. I have been a patient as well and would like to be treated with dignity, respect and have the best health care for myself. The support from Family, Friends and the Professionals make a big difference in a client's recovery. I became a caregiver because I believe that a person should first be educated, and have access to the best healthcare available for a better quality of life. Our families loved ones are our greatest assets and we need to cherish our time with them. My experience as a caregiver has taught me that not only is the patient cared for but the entire Family must be part of the healing process as well. I think that a good healthcare provided can bring security and peace of mind to the Family and the patient. They will be reassured that their loved one will be safe and will receive the best care possible from a qualified caregiver. I have reliable transportation and have 10+ years experience working with geriatric patients that have special needs in their own homes. I enjoy sucessfully meeting the patient's healthcare goals and the needs of their immediate family. I am CPR Certified as well as a Certified Medical Assistant since 1994. I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your loved one's needs. Sincerely, Kathryn M. Howard

I was hired as a part-time live in home care provider for Mr. Kreuger. Mr. Kreuger was bed bound and post CVA, he also had a peg tube from which he received his daily nutrition and crushed medications. I was responsible to monitor my client from falling out of the bed or chair, and to nurse his bed sores by turning him every hour to one houe and 1/2. I groomed him. gave him bed baths, maintained his peg tube inside and out. I also cared for his skin integrity with proper lotions. I also changed him and cleaned the peri area after any bowel movements or urine. Also, shaved him twice a week and maintained his nails by clipping and followed up on any doctor's orders or appointments. I documented every intervention and communicated with immediate family members, especially his daughter, Kaye that worked in Houston, Tx.

Girling Home Care
At Girling, I had different clients that I was assigned to. One patient was a young boy, he was bed bound and was 14 years old. Josh had a rare genetic disorder and was not expected to live over 25 years of age. I helped him strengthen his muscles with ROM and other exercises, fed him, cleaned around his tracheostomy, bathed him and groomed him. I also read to him and encouraged him to laugh. He became discouraged from laying in bed or being in his wheelchair all day. I also, communicated with his mother about keeping him active with games, coloring books, video games, music and his homework assignments. I had various other clients and the majority of them were gereatric patients. I cared for their mental health by making sure that the alzeheimer's patients could not escape from the back fence or fall down near their chairs or beds. I made sure throw rugs were not used and that floor and bed areas were padded. I keep up with the patient's daily medication and feeding schedules. I also, made sure that they contacted and visited their physicians on a regular bases. I monitored any medication or high blood pressures or heart rates through vital sign assessments of the patient every 2 hours.

I always give 100% and do the best job I can, with no exceptions or excuses. I also try to bring a sense of humor to my work. If I can add a smile or laugh to a client’s day, that means a lot to me. It is important to laugh. One of the best qualities as a caregiver is my ability to be empathic. I understand that my client may feel vulnerable, scared, confused and uncomfortable, and being able to identify and allay these fears can create a sense of calm and trust for those being cared for.
