My father just passed away on February 28th of this year. He was a quadriplegic for 29 long years. During those last few years he really struggled and had a lot of health issues, so I stepped in to help quite a bit and learned a lot in the process. It's something I would never trade for anything. I miss him dearly but I know I can go on to help someone else's parent or grandparent in his memory. We went through more "caregivers" than I care to remember, and only a handful lived up to the name of their profession. So many of them were rude and lazy and made him feel like such a burden and a bother. It is something that has really taught me a lesson on empathy and patience and how NOT to treat others. I vow to always treat a patient the way my dad "should" have been treated.
