About Kyra

From a very young age, I had a maternal side that was very strong. When I was 10 years old, my mom gave birth to my awesome little brother. I was so excited because I finally had my own REAL baby doll I could take care of all the time! After he had almost turned 2 and still wasn't saying so much as "da da" we realized something might be different about my little brother. He was diagnosed with speech apraxia and we were told he was within the spectrum of being autistic. As my little brother visibly grew more frustrated over not being able to form words, the more my need to care for him and assist him in some way grew. I sat in on his speech therapy sessions and watched the therapist intently. I researched sensory issues and how that related to my brother's disability. I began coaching for a special needs cheerleading team. My love for caregiving was fulfilled also through countless babysitting and nannying gigs. I've always been passionate about caring for others.

I was a coach for an all star cheerleading team for athletes with special needs. I've had years of training working hands on with kids who have many different disabilities (deaf, blind, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, various physical disabilities). I learned some sign language, had a lot of sensory training, speech therapy, and physical therapy. The overall goal of the job was to provide an inclusive environment where these kids could all get active and be a part of a team to the best of their ability, which was different for every kid. It was a very therapeutic thing for not only the kids, but us as well. We all learned from each other.
